H.I.D.D.E.N. STRESSORS

In Functional Diagnostic Nutrition®, we classify internal stress in the body as H.I.D.D.E.N. stressors which can cause fatigue, auto-immune issues, gastrointestinal issues, weight gain, and many other symptoms. As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Pracitioner, it is how I work to identify the underlying causes of your symptoms instead of just treating at a surface level.

These H.I.D.D.E.N. systems are the foundation of your body's functions and must be working properly for you to feel great and symptom-free. If you have an issue in one of these systems, it can spread throughout your entire body creating a cascade of stress and inflammatory responses resulting in Metabolic Chaos®. H.I.D.D.E.N. stressors are found in the:

  • Hormones
  • Immune system
  • Digestion
  • Detoxification system
  • Energy Levels
  • Nervous System

Our body is made to endure times of short-lived stress. The "fight or flight" signal is necessary for our survival. However, if you are under constant triggers of stress, the signals start to take their toll. Cortisol and adrenaline are hormones that get raised in stressful times (among many others). They are very important for your health and are very necessary, yet when they are too high for too long, they start to break down systems. The result is INFLAMMATION and that is when symptoms start to occur.

Do you have a chronic gut infection? Do you have an imbalance of cortisol in your body? Too much estrogen? Is your liver not being supported and functioning well? Do you have poor melatonin production? Are your mitochondria not producing the energy as they should?

These are all questions that we may encounter when we are looking for hidden stressors.

If they are never identified and addressed, you will never find true health or overcome symptoms.

How do we find your H.I.D.D.E.N. stressors?

Overcoming health concerns can be challenging, especially when the issue begins with a lack of thorough investigation into your body and how it is functioning. This is why DIAGNOSTIC LAB TESTING is so important. Finding hidden stressors in the body can help you prevent disease. We are working at the root of your body so you can heal and resolve issues from the core outward, to work in a way that supports true "health care." When you restore balance to these key areas of your biology, great health happens! Illness and disease go away!

Functional Labs find H.I.D.D.E.N Healing Opportunities

HORMONES

IMMUNE SYSTEM

IMMUNE SYSTEM

Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers—regulating everything from mood and energy to metabolism and menstrual cycles. When they’re out of balance, you feel it.

These 3 functional lab tests can offer valuable insight into your hormone health:

  • DUTCH Test:  measures hormone levels and metabolites to give a clear picture of how your body is producing, using, and clearing hormones.

  • HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis):  shows how your mineral balance supports hormone production and stress response.

  • GI-MAP (Stool Test): reveals how your gut impacts hormone detox and whether hormones like estrogen are being properly eliminated.

Together, they help uncover the why behind hormone-related symptoms—so we can create a plan that brings you back into balance.

IMMUNE SYSTEM

IMMUNE SYSTEM

IMMUNE SYSTEM

Your immune system is your body’s internal defense—designed to recognize what belongs, eliminate threats, and detect imbalances before they become illness.

When it’s under- or overactive, you may experience chronic infections, fatigue, inflammation, or autoimmune symptoms.

These functional lab tests provide a deeper look at your immune health:

  • GI-MAP (Stool Test): Reveals infections, inflammation, and how the gut—where 80% of your immune system lives—is functioning.
  • DUTCH Test: Assesses how stress hormones may be suppressing or over-stimulating the immune response.
  • OAT (Organic Acids Test): Detects underlying infections, yeast, mold, and nutrient deficiencies that affect immunity.
  • HTMA:  Shows mineral imbalances that support or impair immune function.
  • Total Tox Burden:  Identifies environmental toxins that weaken immune resilience.
  • MRT Food Sensitivity Test Highlights hidden immune reactions to foods that drive inflammation.
  • Zoomer Bundle (Vibrant Wellness): Offers in-depth panels for immune triggers like gluten, mold, pathogens, and autoimmunity.

Together, these tests help uncover what’s stressing your immune system—so we can strengthen it from the inside out.

DIGESTION

IMMUNE SYSTEM

Your digestive system is responsible for breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste. When it’s not working properly, you may experience bloating, food sensitivities, fatigue, or nutrient deficiencies—even if you’re eating healthy.

These functional lab tests offer insight into how well your digestive system is functioning:

  • GI-MAP (Stool Test): Identifies infections, inflammation, enzyme deficiencies, and imbalances in the gut microbiome.

  • OAT (Organic Acids Test): Highlights issues with yeast, bacteria, and digestive function at the cellular level.

  • MRT Food Sensitivity Test: Detects delayed immune reactions to foods that may be causing inflammation or digestive distress.

  • Zoomer Bundle (Vibrant Wellness): Provides in-depth testing for food sensitivities, leaky gut, and immune triggers.

  • HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis): Assesses mineral levels that support enzyme production and stomach acid—both essential for digestion.

Together, these tests help uncover why digestion may be impaired—so we can create a targeted plan to restore gut health and improve nutrient absorption.

DETOXIFICATION

Your detoxification system works around the clock to clear waste from daily metabolic processes and eliminate toxins from food, water, air, and products. When this system is overwhelmed or sluggish, toxins can build up—impacting energy, hormones, mood, and overall health.

These functional lab tests help assess how well your body is detoxing:

  • GI-MAP (Stool Test): Evaluates gut health and pathways of elimination, including how well you're clearing waste and toxins through the digestive tract.

  • OAT (Organic Acids Test): Detects markers for oxidative stress, mold, and detox capacity at the cellular level.

  • Total Toxin Panel: Screens for heavy metals, environmental chemicals, and mold toxins that burden the detox system.

  • HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis): Assesses mineral imbalances that affect liver detox pathways and identifies stored heavy metals.

Together, these tests give a clear picture of how well your body is “taking out the trash”—so we can support and optimize your detox pathways.

ENERGY PRODUCTION

ENERGY PRODUCTION

Your body needs energy to function—both for essential processes like digestion and detoxification, and for daily activities like thinking clearly, exercising, and staying focused. When energy production is disrupted, you may feel tired, foggy, or burned out, even with enough sleep.

These functional lab tests help uncover what may be draining your energy:

  • MRT Food Sensitivity Test: Identifies hidden food reactions that can trigger inflammation and drain your energy reserves.
  • DUTCH Test: Measures key hormones like cortisol and DHEA that regulate energy, stress response, and sleep-wake cycles.
  • OAT (Organic Acids Test): Evaluates mitochondrial function—the powerhouse of your cells—and detects nutrient deficiencies that impair energy production.
  • GI-MAP (Stool Test): Reveals gut infections or imbalances that may be contributing to inflammation and fatigue.
  • Zoomer Bundle: Screens for food and environmental triggers that can disrupt metabolic function and energy balance.

Together, these tests offer a comprehensive view of your energy systems—so we can address the root causes of fatigue and help you feel vibrant again.

NERVOUS SYSTEM

ENERGY PRODUCTION

Your nervous system is your body’s command center—regulating everything from stress response and mood to digestion, sleep, and hormone balance. It constantly shifts between “fight or flight” (sympathetic) and “rest and repair” (parasympathetic) modes. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to anxiety, burnout, sleep issues, and poor resilience.

These functional lab tests provide insight into nervous system function:

  • DUTCH Test: Measures stress hormones like cortisol and DHEA to assess how your body is coping with and recovering from stress.
  • OAT (Organic Acids Test): Detects neurotransmitter imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, and stress markers that influence brain and nervous system health.
  • HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis): Reveals mineral patterns that reflect nervous system tone—especially how your body handles stress and adapts to pressure.
  • Total Tox Burden: Identifies environmental toxins that can disrupt brain chemistry and stress response.

Together, these tests help map how your nervous system is functioning—so we can support better stress resilience, calm, and emotional balance.
